Crossing

June 25, 12 PM

RAMA Kammermusiksalen

“Crossing” traces a lineage of music for strings and percussion by composers of multiple generations, with a connection to the Danish New-Music scene. Audiences can expect re-imaginings of historical chamber music forms, solo performances and intersections of music, video, electronics and performativity. The programme touches on themes of the hidden, unnoticed, absent, blended, restrained, insular, as well as dualities of the inner/outer self.

Presented in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus and AUT, this concert offers a unique selection of works by RAMA faculty, graduate students and alumni, performed by recent graduates, faculty, and international soloists.

Foundations

June 25, 7 PM

Vrinners kirke

“Foundations” juxtaposes the late-romantic style of Langgaard with new solo pieces by violinist-composers Anne Sophie Andersen and Anna Jalving. Foundations can be both temporal, in the form of composers’ roots in the musical and cultural traditions of their predecessors, and sonic, building from the lowest frequencies (embodied by the cello) towards the highest (embodied by the violin).

Presented in collaboration with Mols i Udvikling, this concert features award-winning young soloists and chamber musicians.

Works by Rued Langgaard, Anne Sophie Andersen, and Anna Jalving

Nightingale String Quartet
Anna Jalving, violin
Simone Drescher, cello

Free admission! Suggested donation of DKK 50 to Folkekirkens Nødhjælp Ukraine emergency relief.

Bridges

June 26, 3 PM

frederiksKirken, højbjerg (Aarhus)

“Bridges” highlights the tendency for contemporary classical art music to diffuse and blend into related genres, such as jazz and pop music. This brings into question the notion of musical accessibility, and whether or not contemporary art music can justly be construed as a monolithic genre.

This concert features new works by RAMA alumni and other Nordic composers including premieres by violinist-composer Anne Sophie Andersen and bassist-composer Frederik Sakham, performed by international soloists and recent RAMA alumni.

Works by Tobias Krebs, Peteris Vasks, Ilari Kaila, Anne Sophie Andersen, Sofie Meyer, and Frederik Sakham

Mathilde Schelin, clarinet
Anna Jalving and Patrick Yim, violins
Simone Drescher and Emilia Ślusarczyk, celli
Frederik Sakham, double bass

Free admission! Suggested donation of DKK 50 to Folkekirkens Nødhjælp Ukraine emergency relief.
