Maria Isabel Edlund

 

Maria Isabel Edlund (b. 1990) is a Danish cellist living in Aarhus and Berlin. Maria has studied at the Malmø Academy of Music and in 2020 she finished her soloist class studies at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.

Maria spends a lot of time working closely with some of her favorite composers such as Bára Gísladóttir, Britta Byström, Niels Rønsholdt, Louise Alenius and Aya Yoshida. Another dear highlight of her musical life is meeting and working together with Garth Knox and the Kronos Quartet.

In 2018 she did (in collaboration with Aarhus Unge Tonekunstnere) a scenic concert project called SEGÏA together with her string quartet Taïga, where chamber music, light and design came together as a whole.
Furthermore she has for some years arranged a festival called The House, a festival that explored how to present classical music in untraditional ways.

In the fall of 2021 she will premiere a cello concerto written for her and Athelas Sinfonietta written by Britta Byström. Furthermore she will in 2022 release her debut album Applause that presents her love towards both contemporary and baroque music.
