K4JA Quartet - K4JA takes its name from kaja, the Estonian word for “echo.” Violinist Saimi Kortelainen assembled the quartet for nyMusikks komponistgruppe’s concert at Sentralen in Oslo on 28 October, bringing together violinist Fanny Hjort, violist Agnes Pavelich and cellist Elvira Göransson. Drawn from Oslo’s contemporary and chamber music scene, the four musicians share a curiosity for new sounds and close collaboration with composers. At Sentralen, they perform two quartets and a trio by Mari Kimura, Luis Fernando Amaya and Hermod Bentsen. K4JA is interested in how the string quartet can open onto other sounds, technologies and artistic settings, and in building lasting exchanges with composers of a new generation.
