David Allen Cutright

David is a composer, pianist, and academic whose music has been performed in the United States and abroad by ensembles such as the Yale Brass Trio, the Bergmál Festival Players (Scandinavia), and the Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra.  As a pianist, he frequently performs his own works and the established literature.  David has served on faculty at Stony Brook University (SUNY), the Hartt School, and Central Connecticut State University, among others.  He instructs undergraduate courses from Music History, Theory, Piano, and Composition to English and Psychology, and is former co-director of the Hartt Composer’s Ensemble.  In addition, David teaches new music seminars in festivals, such as the Icelandic Chamber Music Festival.  Among several artist residencies granted him were two consecutive awards by I-Park Foundation.  Former and current mentors include: (composers) Sheila Silver, Perry Goldstein, Daria Semegen, Stephen Gryc, Robert Carl, Larry Alan Smith, and Philippe Bodin; (pianists) Anthony Padillia, David Abbott, and Rebecca Kugler.

David is a PhD candidate at SUNY Stony Brook where he continues to teach undergraduate courses.  A.D. Composition, Hartt School; M.M. Composition, Hartt School; B.A. Music, Lawrence University.
